This is a hybrid position (3 days in office) located in Mississauga, Ontario.  

 

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring a safe and healthy work environment while minimizing the organization's environmental impact. He or she participates in all aspects of the implementation of Draeger Canada’s Environmental, Health and Safety Program including planning, coordinating, communicating, training, monitoring key performance indicators and evaluating the efficacy of the program. The EHS Specialist supports activities required for the implementation of our Vision Zero program and maintain compliance with ISO14001, ISO 45001 and applicable regulatory requirements and contributes to the continuous improvement of our Integrated Management System.

 

Additionally, the EHS Specialist is responsible for maintaining Draeger’s Canada satisfactory rating by supplier management networks and participates in the supplier approval and evaluation process. The EHS Specialist engages employees across the organization to identify and communicate hazards and fosters a safety culture and sustainable practices. 

 

Job Responsibilities:  

  • Support the correct implementation of Integrated Management System (IMS) to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements with focus on ISO14001, ISO 45001, OHSA, WHMIS, SOR/86-304, and other regulatory requirements applicable to Draeger Canada.
  • Monitor changes in the EHS regulations and assist in the creation and release of policies and procedures to reflect applicable regulations and requirements. Conduct annual review of environmental aspects and legislation-regulations list.
  • Coordinate cross functional activities for the elimination of nonconformities uncovered during monthly safety inspections and IMS audits as well as corrections resulting from the investigation of safety incident reports.  Ensure mitigation of such non-conforming issues utilizing standard quality processes such as root cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions.
  • Coordinate with managers and supervisors to identify training needs, develop, and deliver training programs to educate employees on EHS policies, procedures, and safety practices.
  • Coordinate with managers and supervisors to conduct regular risk assessments and PPE assessments to identify potential hazards and implement measures to mitigate them. Assist in developing and maintaining emergency response plans and conduct drills to ensure preparedness for potential emergencies
  • Identify opportunities to support Draeger’s decarbonization goals and sustainability program. Assist compiling, and reporting energy consumption data, monitoring performance metrics and assuring trends are identified and escalated for consideration into actions as required.
  • Lead investigations into workplace incidents, accidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and prevent recurrence. Track incident and lost time rates and submit reports as required. Serve as a liaison with insurance and regulatory agencies.
  • Support supplier management process, customer tenders and RFPs and provide required EHS data and documentation for supplier management networks to ensure a competitive rating for Drager Canada.

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in a technical field (e.g. engineering), Manufacturing/Service, Safety & Environmental Science, Facilities or equivalent education, training, and experience.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in environmental health and safety role, specifically in creating procedures and processes, conducting risk evaluations, incident investigations, training, monitoring performance and reporting functions.
  • Experience working with or in quality, operations, business, integrated supply chain will be considered.
  • Must be knowledgeable and conversant in the applicable EHS disciplines, sciences and regulations.
  • Must have skills in building strong professional relationships and networks to drive EHS programs and performance.
  • Familiar with policies, governmental health, safety and environmental regulations and requirements (OHSA, WHMIS, SOR/86-304, etc.)
  • Knowledge of current editions of IS0 14001/ISO 45001 standards.

 

The compensation includes a base salary range of $68,000 - $85,000 (CAD) with an annual performance bonus (percentage of base).
